I love fashion and beauty magazines.
I know, I know… they’re really not healthy for a girl like me to read. And by “girl like me,” I mean a girl who is most certainly NOT sample size.
BUT!
Since I was 11 or 12ish, I’ve loved the look and gloss (and heft!) of a good Vogue or W or Elle or even Allure (my current favourite.) I truly don’t feel badly about how I look when I read them (though I should, since they are apparently “the devil” when it comes to feminine self-esteem.)
I’ve always had a natural sort of instinct about adapting the concepts to work on my less-than-willowy frame. That is, unless I can’t stand the concepts, or the concepts clearly won’t stretch to “adapt” to my hips.
Then I ignore them! HA!
I also love home and design magazines.
This is something I share in common with both my mama and my beloved, since the former has had multiple copies of Architectural Digest stacked around the house since I was old enough to gaze at vaulted ceilings and swimming pools in adoration, and the latter has a passion for the intricacies of design that rendered his search for a new sofa a months-long process.

I remember receiving messages like “You’d be so pretty if you’d just lose some weight” when I was as young a 5. 35 years and one bout with bulimia later I continue to try valiantly to replace them with other, love and life affirming codas running through my pysche. These magazines are terrible, for me. (Although I DO love lists of the top 10 WORST celebrity beach bodies.)

Favourite place to be/live? At my apartment with my boyfriend, cuddled up on the couch or in bed.

Favourite sheets (fabric, thread count, brand if you want)? Cotton. Don’t care about thread count, but I don’t do blankets on my bed. It has to be a duvet.

Favourite form of lighting (big windows, candlelight, overhead fluorescence)? Bright rooms and natural light
Favourite piece of furniture (bed, sofa, bathtub, etc.)? Currently, probably my bed.
Favourite time of year/weather? Fall. I don’t like too hot or too cold, but I prefer cold over hot because if you’re too cold you can always warm up. But cooling down can be a challenge. So I like fall because it’s the end of the too-hot weather.

I’m relying on Old Navy at the moment because I’m in a teeny tiny town with no decent shopping, damn it; but I go crazy in H&M whenever I find one and I stock up on Marks and Spencers basics via my lovely mother. I also love Threadless T-shirts.
Favourite brand of jeans, or place to buy jeans?
Old Navy Flirt Jeans fit me well and don’t cost too much.
Favourite brand of shoe (and type of shoe)?
I live in flats, mainly Converse or Doc Marten boots (but the sort of lady-like retro ones, not bover boots), with ballet pumps when I have to be girly.
Favourite brand of handbag?
Courierware bags are the best - waterproof, long lasting and comfortable. They will custom make them to your specifications, so mine is a black medium courier bag that I hand painted polka dots on.
Favourite clothing influence (relative, celebrity, something)?
I was given Nina Garcia’s book “The 100″ for my birthday; and I have to say I agree with almost everything she has to say, which seemed odd.

Saucony

Brooches and pins, and I get a lot of them on-line or just as lucky finds. I also love vintage necklaces.

Levis button fly. But I haven’t been able to find them since 2003. I guess I should let go and find a new favourite.

Anything that bears a likeness to a running shoe. I have a ton of them. I think there’s a name for that. Multiple Running Shoe Disorder?

Not sure of the brand, but my latest thing is a black backpack type of shoulder bag.

Casual-relaxed-laidback-tracksuitesque-comfort wear. I just made that up. Can pyjamas be a clothing influence?

Definitely New Balance. I need all the balance I can get in my life.

Scarves. I love scarves. They can be handy too. Like when one of your belts breaks in your car, or if you need to quickly strangle someone… no, not really.

Cucina from Fruits & Passion Actually it’s a hand soap, but since hands are a part of your body, I figure it should work here.

Pi from Givenchy. God, how do you type the symbol for Pi? 3.14159265358979323846… ??? I’m an idiot. Anyway, it’s a guys fragrance, but I love it.

Aveeno Ultra Calming. I think the name says it all.

In the sad but true category, I don’t really use body moisturizer. I know I should. I just don’t take the time often enough to make a difference.

Anything that works for me especially during winter is good. Chapstick, Blistex, Vaseline, etc.

Thread count? Who has the time to check if the advertised thread count is accurate? I don’t worry about thread count. Should I? Anyway most of my sheets are cotton. Flannel in the winter.

I had to look up the name… Pueblo style 1898-1990s. Suffice it to say that I love the adobe style architecture found mainly in the American Southwest.
