new things coming…

It’s a brand new year, and though I am busy to the gills (Sleep! Wherefore art thou?), I’ve decided to embark on a new project that I think will be a lot of fun for me… and hopefully helpful to other people, too!

See, there’s this thing I’ve had fun with for a long time (ask my mom how long!) — and I’ve been good at helping people with, too. Every time I write something about it or talk to someone about it, they make the same suggestion. And over time, I’ve realized that HEY! I COULD ACTUALLY DO THAT.

So without further ado….

I’m starting a skincare blog!

On another URL!

Which I don’t have yet!

But I will!

And I’ll tell you when I do!

I know there are lots of “beauty” blogs out there, but I’m going to come at it from the angle of problem solving and making good, critical recommendations… and not just shilling the latest freebie a company sends me with copy provided by the PR department. Yoinks!

I think there’s still a dearth of practical thinking out there, and SO many people struggle with how their skin makes them feel. So let’s fix it!

Here’s the rest of my (currently vague) plans:

    1. Help women AND men with their skincare needs. Because men like to be smooth, too!

    2. Have a sense of humour about the whole thing. Which doesn’t mean the advice will be silly… I’ll just deliver it the way I deliver everything else!

    3. Encourage people and give them an opportunity to make changes that will help them feel good about themselves. Feeling good about the way you look doesn’t have to be a vain thing — it’s a comfy-in-your-skin thing, and since I’m working on that in my own life, I figure others might be, too.

    4. I’m considering advertisers, but I want to be picky… again, recommending just anything doesn’t appeal to me, and if I’m responsible for content, I take that part of it seriously. I don’t think you need to see another Herbal Essences or Olay or Neutrogena ad on a blog, anyway. I find most advertising networks incredibly repetitive and mis-targeted, and I’d rather deal with reputable companies one on one.

    5. I’ll be recommending stuff in all price ranges, from basic drugstore to more boutique or specialty items. But I won’t recommend the latest thing if the latest thing doesn’t do better than an older thing!

    6. I’ll be welcoming your letters with problems to solve in individual posts, as well as attacking common problems, and talking about fantastic products that I can recommend more broadly.

    7. I’m not doing this in conjunction with a blogging network or being sponsored in any way. If a company sends me products, I’ll let you know, and I’ll be HONEST in assessing them… even if it means they never send me anything again. Ha!

    8. I’ll also feature guest posts from other product junkies who are trying out new things, and get their recommendations. Including my boyfriend, who doesn’t know he’s doing that yet. And “product profiles” from folks, and what they use, head to toe.

So stay tuned! I’ll be announcing the URL in a little while.

Until then, let me know in the comments what kinds of problems or questions you’d love me to address, or products you’d like me to try. Or any suggestions at all!

Thanks!

  1. Long. long. LONG. overdue!

I would love to know how to fend off the dry-but-cold-which-means-dryer-than-dry New England winter without getting the unholy itchies.

  2. Well, my rosacea just came back after 8 years without a flare up. So if you are an expert in that, that would be cool. It’s a tricky condition and a lot of skincare advise makes it worse for us.

  3. Hi Leslea!

A couple of my friends struggle with rosacea, actually. My roommate used to get it, and swears by the Aveeno Sensitive line… she hasn’t had redness or inflammation with it at all, and it’s uber gentle (even with the SPF in it, which is sometimes a big irritant.) But I’ll dig in and get you some answers!

  4. Yay for new ventures! It was obvious from your two-part post not long ago about this stuff that you are passionate about it and know a whole helluva a lot. (BTW will it just be skincare or hair too?)

So I say yay! And I will support you in all your adventures, on and offline. :)

  5. Ooh! So, like, Hair Thursday but for skin? This is AWESOME. And I already have a reader referral for you… my sister has been having a terrible time with her skin so I will definitely point her in the direction of your blog when it’s up and running. It would be kind of great if it became a multi-author blog, don’tcha think?

I suggest Slynnro for guest posting, that girl is IN THE KNOW about skincare products!

  6. i’ve got some adult acne issues. i would like to know of something that could help that’s not pro-activ, tea tree, or any clearasil/oxy combo because that’s not helping.

and no birth control either…that kinda defeats the whole wanting a baby part.

on a serious note, i am a thirty year old woman who hates going to her job because the kids always ask if she has the chicken pox. ouch. help would be most awesome. :)

  7. Hi Meg,

I’ve been blessed genetically skin-wise anyway, but my 21 and 16 year old struggle with acne, major bummer for them. I don’t have a clue what really helps because I never had the problem at their age. I know it is often hit and miss with that stuff but I’m sure the youths out there would be happy for advise too. :)

  8. Well promises, promises! I am still waiting for advice from the January 11th piece, when I asked if there was anything for my dry and itchy soul.

  9. Hello Meg!
I must say I love your blog. I love your “love lists” and have even been doing them on my own blog, they make me happy.
I have been enjoying your skin care posts, I would definitely read your skin care blog. I have weird adult acne that needs some TLC. I’ve tried anything and almost everything… they all work for a while and then stop.
    I can’t wait!!
    Cheers!!

  10. WHOA! I can’t wait. I will give you my recommendations to use and/or not use, and you can make me try stuff and use me as a guinea pig any time!

  11. Oh goodness!! Apparently I’ve been away for entirely too long. Cat’s getting married and there is a boy… I’m not sure what his status is yet… I have some reading to do. like 8 months worth.

It’s good to read you again Meg.

  12. I would like to know what to do with the increasingly blueish bags under my eyes and the ever increasing size of my pores.

Good luck with the new venture. Sounds like fun!

  13. Flakies! Is there any cure for the dreaded winter face flakies?! I exfoliate my heart out and it doesn’t seem to help anymore!

  14. I would love to read your new beauty blog. I am looking for your web address, but cannot find it. I write one too, but it is solely focused on spa products, skin care treatments and the world of anti-age everything. Good Luck to you, Meg, I love your writing style and humour. It is very entertaining!
