rest in peace, mr. newman. 1925-2008

Filed under: love — meg @ 8:04 am

Paul Newman left us today at the age of 83.

I don’t normally do memorials to notable figures who pass away, but I am a longtime Paul Newman fan for a giant number of reasons, so I wanted to put a little something up to say goodbye.

I have always loved his commitment to giving (and to kids and camps, no less!), along with his frequently self-deprecating sense of humour, and his devoted and oft-expressed commitment to his wife in a fickle town.

He was also a tremendously gifted actor and, well… probably one of the most handsome men I’ve ever seen, and enduringly so.

I mentioned him here a few times.

Thanks for everything, Mr. Newman.

A cool, classy guy. A fine actor, great philanthropist, and a race car driver to boot. RIP.

They simply do not make them like this anymore. Who among our current crop of contemporary “celebrities” can you imagine leaving a legacy like that of Paul Newman?

He was a man’s man. We’ll miss you Paul.

A hell of a man. Gawd, those eyes. My Mom introduced me to him as “Newmie” and talked about him with a delicious grin, and a far away gaze. I got to share that gaze too. A hell of a hunk. Thanks for the memories Newmie.

Wow, thanks for keeping me up to date on what is happening in the world. No there is no sarcasm in that statement. I really liked Paul Newman and liked that he and his wife had been together for so long.
