update: mike.
For those of you that wondered about new Fowler (parents) family member, Mike, an update from my dad (pardon the graphic language):
“Thank your readers for their interest.
Mike went to visit the vet yesterday for his first quick check-up. He has “da worms” and so he was administered a large pill yesterday and he receives the second one in ten days. His medication is making him a bit sluggish but he decided he was not going to pose for any pictures today so they are little shaky.

He also has the “squits” which is a conflation of squirts and s*** — the medication makes him “loose.” So he receives freqent towel changes and baths.

He has a very good appetite and is eating kitten kibble with enthusiasm — but he hates getting bathed.

I have included a photo of Annabelle who is not being hospitable and seems to actually be terrified of Mike — even though she is about ten times his size. If you put him anywhere near her she meows very loud and long, perhaps hisses, and then runs away. But she is being very, very friendly with me — I think she now hates your mother.”
Here’s Annabelle (my late grandparents’ cat):

… and one of Mike’s siblings (at the farm):

And that’s your Mike update for today.

Thanks for the update. Mike, taking antibiotics gives me the squits, too. Don’t worry, it’ll go away after a bit. Of course, you’re a cat, so maybe you don’t care if it goes away.

Mike is awesome. I love when they are at this age and everything is new. The antibotics will be good, just make sure to give him good food and water. And look into giving him some wet food, and some probiotics (asadopholus is great too)

I’m not sure if the pill was anything but a deworming pill, but I’m giving “him” whole grain pablum and kitten replacement milk, alternating with moistened (sorry Meg!)kibble and water. He has a good appetite and if we could evict “his” ‘tenants’, then we would soon see the benfits of his diet doing him good instead of them. he played on our laps for over an hour and a half and NO squits!!! For size reference, the foam ball in the pic is 1 & 1/4″ diameter. and he ‘tips’ the scale at under a pound incl., a facecloth -which he is never without because of afore mentioned squits! He is 1/3 to 1/2 the size of his siblings.I have read about the probiotics for gut health and will check rhat out too. Just couldn’t walk away from the wee tyke and while he was fed and watered where he was born , the farm philosophy is necessary - on the farm , but hopefully the pampering here will bring him around. Hmmmm..Pampers for kittens. Hmmmmm…

Actually, if he has worms, it’s good she is keeping her distance. He still is a little glassy eyed and I hope his tiny body can weather this bout of worms and medication…he looks so small! He is adorable and I hope he’ll soon be his frisky self. Thanks for the update…I’ve grown attached to Mike and Annabelle will be too. Eventually!

Poor Mike! It’s very embarassing to have the Squits

Mike’s northern (and extremely overweight) tousins welcome him to the family. I thank heaven THEY don’t have the “squits”.
