Okay, that was an overdramatic title.
I’m not bleeding, nor overtly injured. And there’s no actual emergency except a bad mood that is making me scowl and forming a giant wrinkle up between my eyes. I’m not feeling terribly well, and things and stuff are profoundly not going how I wish they were at the moment… thus I’m doing the whole POOR ME thing in my head.
Which ain’t pretty. Nor is that giant wrinkle.
SO!
Something else is called for, I think.
I need to remember things that are awesome and lovable and wicked and cool and not self-indulgently meh (like me).
But I’m going to rely on you to help me do it, just this once.
So.
What’s good out there? Do tell.
And what might I love?
Hmm… let me see… things that are wicked awesomely and worth loving.
1. Reruns of M*A*S*H at 2:30am when you can’t stand anymore episodes of The World’s Most Dangerous/Craziest/Biggest/Saddest Animals/Trains/Police Chases/Karaoke Songs.
2. That feeling you get when you’ve done something really great for someone else.
3. When you organize a plan, and it goes better than ever would have expected.
4. Teh interwebs when it’s not failwhaling.
5. This video right here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npr_0yTDync&feature=related
6. Realizing that people love you no matter how bad the paint stain is in your hair.
7. Believing that anything is possible, and finding out most of it is.
8. YOU, MEG FOWLER.
9. The fact that the universal good of people outweigh the universal bad… like by a gabillion to one.
10. Ice cream.
11. See #10.
12. See #11, only with good friends.
13. Ramblin’ aimlessly about “kids these days”.
14. Being one of those “kids these days”.
15. Retro baseball caps.
16. Me wearing retro baseball caps.
17. The fact that no matter the miles, technology can bring together people in Boston, Vancouver, and New York as if they were all in the same room.
18. Summer rain after a really hot day.
19. Being with the one you love in that summer rain.
20. The magic that happens with bringing social media people together.
21. People who sing karaoke for two hours, and become friends for life.
22. The fact that I have a great job, and am extremely blessed every single day.
You might love that photo of you and the girls right below this post.
Or a glimpse of sunshine in rainy Vancouver.
Or a cup of coffee.
Or cheesy 90s R&B.
Or a little bit of all of the above.
Feel better, Meg.
Oh, and this.
I give you Demon Kitten:

2) EyeCyte, Inc. Secures Series A Funding from Pfizer

…and that’s just three off the top.
Wow, see, girls? Boys rise to the encouragement challenge:).
This has exploded everywhere since yesterday, but if you haven’t seen it:

If this doesn’t make you happy, nothing will.
Sunshine and blue sky! Take a look out the window.
It is there, I swear!
You will have to wear your fabulous new sunglasses
with all that sunshine out there.
And flip-flops.
(I am even wearing open-toed shoes today, even though it is a flagrant violation of our Footwear Policy, and I don’t even care, because it is sunny!)
Okay, the POOR ME thing? It’s gotta go.
Listen. You work at job where you actually get to utilize your skills. You have myriad of friends who love you and let you share your incredible laugh with them. You are drenched in sunshine in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Do I have to mention how cool your parents are? Nah. I think you get it by now.
RICH is what YOU are!!

( * Bonus points if the middle number in the double play is a “2″: 5-2-3, 3-2-3, 4-2-5, etc.)
Chad – That totally made me happy! I just want to silly dance now. And buy that song.
I have just discovered Garden Salsa flavored Sun Chips. Oh, my.
Blackberry limeade.
The smell of petunias.
Central air conditioning.
Getting a splinter in my palm out on the first try.
Unexpected mid-day naps.
These two always make me smile:

I agree with Superfantastic about the Garden Salsa sunchips. I also think you might, nope, make that should love camels. Especially if you can find a video somewhere of them running. Har! And summer days and walks along the sea wall in Stanley Park and ice cream on a sunny day…..

http://www.techkaraoke.com and a flight to nyc
:-)
One that I have yet to experience: Sunsets over the ocean.
I had a terrible day yesterday too Meg. Here is some love from me:
*The whirlwind of packing for the first _real_ camping trip of the year
*Camping!
*the way a hug makes you feel better than you thought anything could, when you’re having a terrible day.
*running in the morning. (ok, ok, i actually dislike running immensely, BUT I’m sure I’ll grow to love it…right?)
*hugs from my three year old, though usually after one of those I’m a bit stickier than i was previously.
*sitting in our hammock, with a cold beer in hand, listening to the laughter of the kids playing. It just doesn’t get better.
Hope you have a better one today Meg!
Pillowmonsters! I’ve adopted three!
Things to cheer up any day:
- Beautiful (local!) artwork: http://www.martycultural.com
- The ocean, especially coming from Alberta as I do
- Camping!!!
- Overuse of punctuation, esp. exclamation points!!! (And brackets.)
- Seeing live music, be it in an intimate coffee shop setting or as a full-on stadium show
- Knowing how people who don’t even know you in person care about your well being and want nothing but the best for you (hooray for blogs!)
- Catching inspiration like a flu
- Having numerous food allergies and sensitivities and still managing to receive the best birthday cake ever: CHOCOLATE ALMOND KAHLUA CAKE. All of the ingredients are on my safe list! Bless Laura Matthias and the extensive dessert section in her ExtraVeganZa cookbook!!!
I hope today is sunnier for you, Meg! Take care.
Love that you are blessed with the unique sense of humor to share such a painful experience. Few have the descriptive tone which you nailed in your “poor me” diatribe. And for that, we can all relate.
Love that we all share those moments, days, events, projects, career snags, et al.
The opposite of love is not hate, it is indifference and I don’t hear indifference in your note. That’s a good thing. Keep feeling, and all will be good.
If that doesn’t work; lock the door, turn off the phone, log offline and dive chin-deep into a pint of Ben & Jerry’s New York Super Fudge Chunk.
-Encouragement from a stranger.
-No lines at the women’s room during a sporting event.
-Snuggling under down blankets when the room is sixty degrees.
-The feel of sun on cold skin (my office, it is about 50 degrees right now and I keep taking “bathroom breaks” to go stand outside and defrost myself).
-A perfectly cooked steak.
-Being able to read megfowler.com at work (they blocked my dooce access, but I still have you & superfantastic so I’m pretty happy).
-Paper fresh from the copier
-The perfectly straight line of a new highlighter
-Doodling while on the phone and somehow drawing a perfect circle
-Jigsaw puzzles
Your reflection in a mirror, Meg; you have great eyes.
Get well soon.
- No lines at the women’s room during a prog rock concert
- Laundry fresh and hot from the dryer
- Bare feet in a cold creek
- Aimee Mann if you want to wallow a little [Satellite, especially]
- The way the smell of freshly brewed coffee fills the house in the morning
- Salt and pepper potato chips
- Cashmere anything
- Puppies, obvious but undeniable
- Pants from the mists of time that still fit!
- Creamsicles
- Brand new crayons
And really? Reading any and all of the love from your fabulous audience.
Feel better, gorgeous.
1) letting everyone else answer in the comments so i don’t have to
2) disappearing. POOF
Yeah… I got nothin’. So I’m just gonna go with what everyone else said.
I’m kinda “meh”, too, to tell you the truth.
I love the fact that you are going to Blogathon with us. And the fact that you are awesome, Meg Fowler.
Hey Meg,
If you were in Kandahar Air Field, you might love the following:
1. Air-conditioning.
2. The temperature outside at 6:30 am; a nice cool-ish 25 to 30 degrees Celsius.
3. Driving a wee motorcycle at 6:30 am: nice temperature AND very little dust.
4. Strangers who smile and wave (especially the Afghans – that’s especially nice).
5. A convoy of British soldiers cheering as your drive past.
6. Watching crazy Canucks play ball hockey in +50 degree heat. CRAZY!

25. Understanding “hello†in a dozen languages.
26. Polish soldiers. Period.
27. Your friends coming back safe from outside the wire.
28. Friends who let you be “poor me†because sometimes life sucks and the only thing that’ll help you feel better is a friend who will let unload and then pat you on the back and say “you’re a poor thingâ€.
29. Friends who know how long to let you be a poor thing before kicking you in the ass.
30. Air-conditioning.
