it’s shiny out.

Oh, Vancouver. I love you in the sun.
Even when my apartment is an oven of Dutch proportions, even when butterflies chase me like wobbly assassins around my living room, even when you melt the ice in my latte like a city-sized blow dryer, even when awkwardly shirtless men bellow “HEY, WHAT’S UP?” on street corners, even when I’m blinking like a mole for hours trying to adjust to the magic of it all.
You bring fat, bloomy lilacs, just off the deck. You cause freckles in spades. You make me paint my fingernails this colour, and my toes this colour. You create an appetite for fresh things, crisp things, bright things, lovely things — an optimism and delight that still occurs in the rain, but much more, well… damply so.
The showers will come again soon, I’m sure. But for now?
Bliss.

Shiny is a very apt description of this day! Shiny + optimism + delight, definitely = Bliss.
Enjoy it while it lasts :)

Why are Vancouver lilacs so pretty this year and Richmond lilacs look like ass? Not fair!

I love shiny days, today is absolutely beautiful in Colorado. My apartment is, however, somewhat of an oven like yours. Maybe the landlord will fix the AC soon? Maybe not. either way, I love the summertime :)

Lilacs make my eyes get teary. They are my moms favorite flower and it is her favorite fragrance so I miss her when I see or smell them.
After dark tonight Brett(Akula) and I snuck three of our kids into our neighbors backyard to smell their lilacs.
Now it feels like spring.

No lilacs, not quite shiny, but our lake has (in spite of lingering ice) more kinds of ducks/waterfowl than I can shake a stick at (not that I’m shaking sticks at the ducks..)! I love it! But I miss Vancouver’s shininess sometimes… Enjoy!

There is the odd time I might exchange Saskatchewan’s eternal sky and wide open spaces for the West Coast. We’re still at least 2 weeks away from lilacs. Heck, our tree leaves are just barely beginning to show themselves up here in the North. But thanks for the hopeful images of things to come.

Lilacs are the best. I wish I could grow them on my balacony in Calgary.
