saturday morning love list: up and at ‘em edition.

Filed under: love, listy — meg @ 9:43 am

I really love the smell of bleach.

Have I ever told you that?

Love.

I mean, I don’t put the top of the bottle to my nose and inhale, but there’s something about the fragrance of a recently bleached surface that just says CLEAN. Oh, and GERM-FREE. Oh, and did I mention CLEAN?

I couldn’t sleep in this morning (the cough lingers, and maybe I am getting old?) so I hopped out of bed and started washing and polishing my house to a lovely OCD shine. And bleach got involved. And it was good.

But.

I didn’t get a chance to do my Friday Love List, so I figured I would do a Saturday Morning Love List in honor of bleach, the sunshine outside, the coffee perched on my lap, and everything else in life that is good and right.

Please feel free to share your own loves in comments or at your own sites. Spread the love!

THINGS I LOVE, RANDOMLY AND WITHOUT THEME

Bleach (you totally saw that one coming)
Bright mornings (ditto)
Coffee (now I’m just being annoying)
Farewells for dear friends who I can still see anytime I like
Hot wings
Our new vacuum
This song:

The blossoms coming out on our front tree
Kindness
This film:

Laughter that can’t be contained
Large eyes
Witty people who sparkle just a little
Jalepeno peppers
Edible-looking babies
A bit of redecorating
Being forgiven
Boys who drive standard
Looking at watches but never buying
Folding laundry
The promise of summer lurking in a high-sun sky
Iced tea, unsweetened
Everyone else’s sunglasses
Bare feet on green grass
Fresh bangs:

British real estate programs
Good intentions that give way to good actions
Interpretive dances by the photocopier
Antihistamines
Hugs
Plans
Lemon slices
Having the produce guy at Whole Foods compliment me on my choice of tomato
Imagining
Elvis Costello’s glasses. Also? Ira Glass’s glasses.
Old ladies laughing at Starbucks
You.

And you?

I also love bleach. I have special bleach spattered clothes I wear just for cleaning with bleach. I love the clean smell and the way my husband walks in the door after I’ve been cleaning with it and says “Mmmmm… bleachy and clean!”

Wait a sec, there is a whole foods in Canada? I had no idea. It’s one of the things I miss so much about Seattle, where I from. I love the produce in Whole Foods. This is excellent news.

    Mmmm… Edible babies…

    “The other, other white meat!”

I love that I can irritate the socks off The Meg from time to time - and she still loves me. The irritation is not deliberate but neither is it unanticipated on certain subjects. And the socks reference is purely figurative, as The Meg is not give to the wearing of such.

Those are some *fresh* bangs. Love that song — the piano intro reminds me of the Fiery Furnaces.

I love the stillness amid the neighborhood birds’ anxiety at the dawn of a hot day.

I love that song as well. And the fact that it was featured on an Apple commercial makes it just that much cooler [and find-able].

    I love:
dipping your toes in the pool on a hot summer’s day
long conversations with old [and new] friends
another school year coming to its end
    holding hands
the notion of finding uncharted/uninhabited lands
    dreams [awake or asleep]
    simplicity
    endless youtube ‘creeping’
    meeting new friends, online
    old ladies in general
[practically] memorized episodes of a favourite sitcom

  7. Chris Magnusson Says:

I love the term The Meg.

I love that I don’t have to click on your picture to get the full of affect of ‘fresh bangs’. And the film? It was delightfully confusing in a happy sort of way.

*I love NOT being sick on my birthday (maybe next year…)
*the 24oz mocha from the little coffee shop that manages to stay open being right next to starbucks.
*the fact that the aforementioned mocha is cheaper with 4 shots than a 16 oz mocha at said starbucks.
    *soft kleenex
*being able to sleep all night long
*a hug from my 3 year old
*birthday dinners (even though I can’t taste. ugh)
*coming to work on Tuesday (after taking my birthday off hehe) and finding THREE new posts from Meg! WooHoo!

  16. Will Says:

Thank you for alerting me to this song, and the video. I love both.

In fact, I love this song, ‘New Soul’, so much that I had a quick research, and found it was used by Apple to advertise a computer recently, a fact which has increased its popularity (I knew Apple was useful for something!). I also got the lyrics and, if you would like to have them, they are on my blog here; http://tepidair.blogspot.com/2008/04/settling-in_17.html.
Just now, I bought the video at iTunes.
