fifteen things I am way too old not to have by now.
1. A really good bed.
2. A roasting pan.
3. A set of shelves NOT from Ikea.
4. A decent coat that does not leak.
5. A full set of dishes that I chose not for price, but for style.
6. A bedtime
7. A decent camera that takes decent photos.
8. A library card
9. A proper, fluffy duvet (uninherited)
10. A hobby that isn’t the same as my uh, vocation
11. A successful bread recipe
12. A signature style that doesn’t involve flip flops
13. A morning routine
14. More than two sets of sheets
15. A pet (though my laptop is mysteriously close to following me around the house adoringly)
What do you think you should have by now?

I love the number of bedding-related items on your list! I was just thinking the other day that I am well overdue for a comforter set that didn’t come from the Domestications catalog.

Furniture that doesn’t scream “DORM ROOM”. Oh, and a retirement plan other than “someday I hope I can retire.”

A hometown. I live in Gatineau, and feel comfortable, but don’t feel like its ‘my town’. I thought I could have that by now, and that I would not have to join the Rotary or Lions or some other old-dude society to get it. I might have to break down, hike up my pants, complain about the gov’ment and head to the Holiday Inn for the first Thursday of the month.

Oh, man. A husband, probably. Oh, and a “real job” with a “steady income” and a “retirement plan.” And a car that was manufactured after 1990.
And a blender.

You deserve a good bed! My gift to myself with my first career paycheck post-college graduation was a brand new mattress set.
Now…it took me another seven years to treat myself to a real bed frame. But this past May I took a weekend trip to Seattle and ordered the platform frame of my mid-century dreams. Totally worth it!

#1, 2, 5, 7, 8, 9, 14 and 15 I’ve got covered…
For what I think I should have (but don’t necessarily NEED mind you) and don’t:
A boyfriend/relationship/husband.
More friends outside of my current circle.
A hobby that gets me out and about more.
A more routine exercise routine.
A smaller waistline ;)
And if I was to fall victim to the thoughts of some others around me…a house, a car, and a couple of kids (in Vancouver - are you SERIOUS?!?!)

I would love to have living room furniture that is not hand-me-down or IKEA. I would also love to have a big deck and backyard that actually belongs to me so I can entertain friends on balmy, summer evenings. Oh, and a gorgeous Golden Retriever.
