oooh la la!

It is BEAUTIFUL outside. Almost insanely so. AND NOT RAINING!
The sunshine! The warm air (well, it will be)! The smell of lilacs blooming (right by our deck)! The glimmering ocean nearby!
And it’s FRIDAY. Which means I can spend all day tomorrow lolling about on my deck, soaking up Vitamin D, drinking juice (I think I have six kinds in my fridge right now: passionfruit, pomegranate, white grape, ruby red grapefruit, pineapple, orange), flipping idly through magazines and giving myself a pedicure.
Ahhhhh!
I’m also doing some life organization this weekend: trying to organize my ever encroaching product clutter; making a list of everything I will need to spend money on in the foreseeable future; setting some buying goals; doing some rough-edge budgeting; upending my entire bedroom to try and find my OCD self again; and planning my contribution to DECK OF LOVE ‘07.
What is DECK OF LOVE ‘07?
Well, it’s actually nothing that spectacular. I just wanted to give it a spectacular name.
I like doing that. I like to pump up the magic. I like to turn everyday things into EXTRAVAGANZAS! WOOOOOO!
But, essentially, we’re just adding some plants and other elements (hanging lanterns — maybe glass, maybe paper — perhaps a new chaise? Wicker is bad because it gets moldy nearly instantly, so I think it would need to be iron or cedar with weatherproofed cushions) and I want to do it right.
I’m thinking I’ll start a little herb garden in three sections: Italy (basil, oregano, etc.), France (herbes de Provence), and Thailand (peppers, lemongrass, etc.) I also really love peonies, but there’s no way in hell I can grow those. So maybe tomatoes?
Fun!
I love the kind of projects where, even if you make absolutely no headway, the fun of planning makes it all worthwhile.
That’s why I’ve been engaged nine times!
Kidding.
SOOOOO…
1. What’s your big weekend plan? If you could spend it anywhere, doing anything, where would you be? What would you be up to?
2. Do you have any spend-y/save-y goals right now?
3. What are your favourite plants/herbs/flowers/growy things?
4. Give us three weekend songs to rock (or chill, or swing, or freak) out to…
5. What do you do to indulge yourself? Is it a matter of time? Buying things? Doing things?
6. How ARE you, anyway?
TELL! TELL! TELL!

I am loving your lilacs. I can almost smell them. They aren’t blooming here just yet… And your deck sounds fabulous!
1. Plane flies out to Montréal on Saturday! If I could do anything, I would be doing exactly what I’m doing… except after a week I would be carrying on to go to Italy and France rather than coming back to Calgary. Then I’d make myself sick eating blood oranges.
2. Saving for a trip to Europe next year. It just has to be.
3. Lilacs are way up there, and nothing much beats fresh basil and parsley as far as I am concerned. I also adore the lamium I planted a few years back, because it just keeps spreading every year and makes me feel like I accomplished something. Any perennial, really.
4. I just discovered Regina Spektor, so definitely one song of hers. “Fidelity” rocks.
In keeping with the spirit of French for this weekend (at least for me):
Depuis - Marc Déry
Jean Leloup - Balade à Toronto
They are mellow and groovy, even without understanding the words.
5. Usually time spent relaxing with me and a book, maybe a bath.
6. I’m great, thanks so much for asking. I’m dropping the dog off at the dog “Resort & Spa” this afternoon and I just know I’m going to cry a river. We haven’t ever left him before and I’m already feeling weepy. I know logically that he will be fine, but I reserve the prerogative to be irrational. At least a little bit.

1.My big weekend plan is…working. Poo. If I could be doing anything, I think I’d be camping out by a lake somewhere. With you. :) I’d catch the fish & let you cook it up.
2.My goals are to save what I don’t spend. Pretty much as usual. :)
3. I kill plants.
4. 3 weekend songs…hmmm…
What’s Up - 4 Non Blondes
Mad About You - The Hooverphonics
Then He Kissed Me - The Crystals
5. My indulgence is buying myself a new book and staying up into the wee hours to finish it.
6. I’m tolerable. :)
Man I’m boring.

1. Mother’s Day breakfast with my mom, dad and sister. And celebrating a 1-year anniversary with my very fine boyfriend.
2. I’m really hoping to travel to France in the next year. So I have my ‘France fund’ set aside!
3. Basil and lavender. I now grow three kinds of lavender on my patio. Mmmmmm. It likes Seattle weather, so maybe it would work in Vancouver?
4. Snorkel by Leo Kottke
I Like Birds by the Eels
Julie-O by Mark Summer (Turtle Island String Quartet)
5. Blog-surfing while drinking way too much coffee.
6. Really very well, thanks. You’re right, the weather and the weekend are fixing to be great. Happy decorating the deck. :)

I love me the lilacs.
1. Weekend plan is to travel as far as the Upper Mainland.
2. Yup
3. Roses, sweet peas (summer memories of long, long, long ago childhood)
4. Miles Davis “Sketches of Spain”; Yo Yo Ma playing Bach’s Six Unaccompanied Cello Suites; most things on Bruce Springsteen’s “We Shall Overcome”.
5. Reading theology while listening to above music (and more - including classicfm from London) through my Bose headphones
6. My back hurts but otherwise sunny and warm

1. Working. Going to see Brand New in concert tonight. Working. Working. Watching Detroit rout the Ducks.
If I could be anywhere, doing anything, I’d be at the lake, or at the very least enjoying the sunshine on a patio.
2. I want to spend lots of $$ to go to Green Bay to see the Packers play while Brett Favre is still kicking around. In reality, I should be saving for a down payment.
3. I like…trees. I do not like flowers at all. I like blackberry bushes and raspberry bushes too.
4. Soco Amaretto Lime - Brand New
Summer of 69 - Bryan Adams
Rolled Up - Long Beach Dub Allstars
5. I buy things. Like last night I bought the last 2 X-Files DVD seasons. I also drink coffee or beer on a patio.
6. I am well, minus wanting to throw some of my students out the window. I’ve already decided which one I’d sacrifice for the sake of the many.

1.Welcome homeparty for a former roommate returned to YK; saying goo-bye to the old job, and hello to a new one!
2. Wedding next year.
3. Ones I can eat.
4. “Hearts On Fire” by Bryan Adams, “Fortress Around Your Heart” by Sting, and “Chili Cold Blood” by Grady; these just happened to be the last 3 song on Tex’s Music Machine.
5. Usually a bought-for-myself sort of thing.
6. 2 hours left at the old job, that’s how I am! And, it’s sunny out!

So…in southern California we have “beautiful outside.” We have not raining. We have the sunshine and the warm air and the glimmering ocean nearby.
What we do not have, however, is the smell of LILACS BLOOMING! Auuuuggghh!
(can’t you please make your picture a scratch-n-sniff?)

1. I’m flying out to Minneapolis to go to a tech writing conference. Big fun! Actually, a lot will be. But if I had my druthers, I’d be lying on the beach doing nothin’.
2. Do you have any spend-y/save-y goals right now?
3. Azaleas, iris, lilacs (your picture is very fragrant!), dogwood - all of which are in bloom (but fading) here right now.
4. Dancing in the Streets, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas; Good Day Sunshine, the Beatles; Block Party, Chuck Brown. If you don’t dance to Block Party, there is something very seriously wrong with you.
5. I sleep, play Snood, and sleep some more. Or get a massage.
6. I’m fine, except for my damn sinuses. I hate them.
May 11th, 2007 at 6:46 pm
Darn! I messed up #2. I’m saving up for a MacBook, actually.

1. Big plan - organizing or possibly more hospital time

2. Spend-y - IKEA is opening soon
Save-y - New Zealand next year
3. Grow-y - Wisteria, lilacs, lavender
4. Walkin on Sunshine -Katrina & the Waves, Watching the Detectives -Elvis Costello, Getting in the Mood -Brian Setzer Orchestra
