Oh man, me too. And I literally did not breathe through the last half of that story. Family legend has it that I was out on the back deck of our condo when my daughter was a toddler when a bee stopped by for a visit. Whoosh. Dad is inside. Baby is outside. Mom is irritated. Bee is probably confused.
A Somehow appropriate verb…to rise, seep, burst forth, well up…hmmm…
Bees, wasps and generally any pesky bug of the flying variety have always sent me shrieking and running away or freezing dead still on the spot until the world stops spinning (and the stupid thing flies away). I understand your fear and sympathize.
I believe that my deep rooted fear originated the night I had to sleep in a tent full of wasps. I think I was 6 or 7ish. Oh, the horror.
terribly sorry, but i had to skip the second half of the story. after i read “A HUGE BEE ON HER EYE” i had to skip straight to the end. that is truly a sign of a well-written story though; the ability to convey intolerable fear through words. shudder.
Oh, God. Beeeeeeessss. I watched this thing on TV about a guy trying to overcome his fears, and he had bees – KILLER BEES – all over his face, hat, body. It was so nasty. And noisy. Bees are so noisy!
It was like a train wreck – I wanted to stop watching, BUT COULDN’T.
yeah, your friend paul… that’s me. only i would have probably wet my pants too.
oh, did i mention that i am also deathly allergic to insect stings and bug bites?
DAMN that was a terrifying story!!!
oh my god! seriously, i share your fear of bees, i had to scroll down past the picture on this page before i felt comfortable even reading while part of my brain is going “HELLO they are in a computer… they cant get me….” and the other part (the tiny little geeky part that needs consoling most days) is sitting there going “whatever, you dont know…. it might be one of those things that happens that you dont expect to happen”
my worst bee experience was when one flew right up my top. and realised it was trapped there. and it was at a school camp but there was no way i was leaving that bee inside my clothes, so i had to strip off and run around all crazy-like
your story was great, even if it did stop me heart in fright. i cant imagine being poor penny.
I am now adding that to the list of qualifications for my future husband: will grab bees off my face if needed.
Yikes!
omg…totally skin-crawling tale! I, too, held my breath until the bees were taken down by your very brave vice principal (who probably didn’t know de-beeing was in his job description). Ha!
I am assuming the girl that had bees treating her face like a hive has an aversion to bees as well? Good grief that was scary.
I guess you Dad & I are very insensitive people…we laughed ’til there were tears running down our faces. Everyone survived the original episode and the telling of the tale is really hugely funny…now!
I think we’ve just shown how scary bees actually are, Mom:). 12 comments of fear!
There you are, Meg! Was getting worried…. not having had my daily dose of Meg yet today….
Well someone has to answer the poor girl’s question:
sourdre v burst
sourdre (idée réflexion)v take shape
sourdre (jaillir)v well up
sourdre (jaillir de terre)v seep out
There, that’s it!
I share your serious fear of bees. They scare the crap out of me and I’m not sure what to do about it. I really hate it when people give me their 2 cents worth of advice and say things like “Stay calm.”, “Don’t make sudden movements”. It’s easy to say when you aren’t deathly afraid of these nasty things. I do everything I’m not suppose to do. I FREAK OUT and generally want to die!
I have to say though, I had such a GREAT laugh at your story. I actually had tears flowing down my cheek due to extreme laughter. Thanks for giving me relief of my phobia….if only for mere minutes.
Brilliant story! What a visual that gave!
Wow. Reading this reminded me of when I was a little girl and a hornet flew up my dress and stung me 3 times on my legs. I am quite surprised that they don’t freak me out very much now…hmm…odd.
I share your fear. When I was 10 I was sitting out at the side of our pool eating and a bee started to fly around me I was already scared as hell from when I was 4 and was stung on my wrist but the worst thing is this time the bee stung be on the front of my neck near my voicebox or what ever is there.
I’ve been stung 3 time and I’m only 12 and if I was the girl who had the bees on her face I wouldn’t sleep for weeks.
