From me to you :) Amy at Fannfare
Hate to mention it Meg – especially on your favourite type of day – but it’s actually “stationery”. I remember the difference because stationery (the paper stuff) has the “e” for envelope (uh, and stationary has the “a” for….anti-movement??).
I suspect you would rock at bellydancing.
And the Muppets were a large influence for me as well. Along with Charlies Angels and MAD Magazine.
Wow. I’m awesome. Thanks, Lori. That’s one of the words I always mess up, along with misspelling tomorrow, Sacramento, commitment, and irrelevant.
I know the difference, I just don’t apply what my head knows to what I write. Which clearly bodes well for my career:).
well, i am so with you on the “gifted” programs turning genius into slackerness…i don’t care that slackerness may or may not be a real word. being told that i was “gifted” all the time when i was a child has really messed me up as an adult because i don’t think i’ve ever lived up to the potential that others told me i possessed. but anyway. also, i love you because you love marquez and sedaris at the same time…two of my all time favorites.
I was also in one of those odd “gifted” programs. I hated it so much that I made my mom take me out of it…but I waited until after the free skiing trip the entire group took. I wasn’t called “gifted” for nothing!
I think you should take a pottery class. I could see you creating all kinds of lovely things for your place, and other peoples’ places!
Lastly, one of my dearest friends has taken to writing me actual letters. I get a card or letter from her almost weekly. I have come to look forward to them so much. I usually know the up to date news from her e-mails, but the cards and letters, they are little pieces of heaven. She writes me encouraging quotes, verses she has been moved by, and little stories of her life. She is amazing. I’m sad that I have not been able to return the favor nearly as often, but I second you on writing more letters. It is always a true gift to see an actual letter arrive among the bills and other nonsense.
I find it ironic that you find others…ironic. :)
heehee
Here’s what I think about that–how we perceive ourselves is almost always different than how others perceive us. MOST people (except perhaps Paris Hilton) tend to be harder on ourselves, less likely to cut ourselves a break when a friend or family WOULD.
Is all I’m saying.
And I liked our gifted programs–they helped some of us win scholarships. :)
