Well put, girl. I’ll be your valentine this year, though.
“You turn me into a spewer of metaphors, a maker of playlists, a neurotic ball of contradictions and wishes, and nothing like the girl I want to be in a relationship.”
I must admit that was me until I met my husband. Suddenly, I turned into cool girl. Is that how it works, or did I just learn from past (bad) experiences? I keep re-reading that quote above and marveling at how well it described me.
Amen. I try very hard to actually be that cool girl in relationships, and failing that (which I do) to at least make the guy think that I am that girl. Which can only last so long, as we all know.
Boys. Sigh. So many wonderful qualities and yet they make them so difficult to appreciate for more than a few minutes together.
this is brilliant, meg. how is it possible that you can still be single when you’ve figure out exactly how to be, and how not to be, what to look for, and what to run from, and even though you say you don’t get it, you seem to have such a wonderful understanding of the mysterious male. you are a total catch.
Cool girls are overrated. And unless you’re one naturally, I think it’s foolish (and even dangerous) to try to be one. Cool girls may be able to walk away, but that same detachment also keeps them from feeling as deeply and diving in as whole-heartedly. We not-cool girls just have to get comfortable with our not-coolness and find some not-cool guys who know how to appreciate it.
Ah, the mysteries of the universe; they make life worth living, don’t they.
We love you to Meg.
Cool girls?
What is this supposed to mean?
All that I know is that girls who are plain, make life plain.
that was beautifully put, meg.
I know I am commenting late but I really loved this post. Very well put, Meg.
