but enough about me.

Filed under: Everything else — meg @ 10:35 am

Oh, guys.

It seems like forever since we chatted about things other than Ernie vs. Bert and the snow in Vancouver.

Not that those aren’t important topics, because LORD KNOWS a) Ernie! and b) the rain is about to take it all away from me.

But.

How are you? What’s going on? How are you feeling? How is the gout? Aunt May? The business at the shop? Your relationship with that no-good, lazy-ass…

Seriously, though. Everyone. Let’s chat. And meet everyone else, because HEY some of you are new here and HEY some of you aren’t and HEY I’d like to know about all y’all. And there’s no time like the present. And nothing like presents. Which reminds me…

Here is my gift to all of you:

Here’s where nine of you just went, “Ewww! I don’t drink coffee! Now I won’t vote for you, bitch!”

Okay, tea drinkers:

Now around five of you just went, “Does that have caffeine in it? I can’t handle caffeine. Are you trying to kill me?”

FINE.

It’s herbal! CHILL.

And now ten of you just went, “Ew! I hate coffee and tea!” Well then, if it’s not coffee or tea, how about ME?

I’m just kidding. Here’s some cocoa:

And at least one of you freaks wants this:

Now that we’ve all got beverages, let’s get on with it:

  1. How are you today… really? Happy? Sad? Chagrined? Tired? Blissful?
  2. What has been the best moment of your week?
  3. The worst moment (that you can share, that is…)?
  4. What would you change about the previous four days, if you could change anything?
  5. What has made you laugh this week?
  6. What has made you think this week?
  7. If you could be anywhere but where you are right now, where would you be?
  8. If you could tell people one thing they can do for you, what would it be?
  9. Do you feel understood?
  10. Is there anything you should be doing for yourself that you’re not doing?
  11. Can I get you a warm, moist towel?

Love to all today. And HOLY CRAP IT’S CHRISTMAS SOON.

    1. I’m exhausted. A new puppy is a LOT of work! Also, rather sad and resigned.
    2. Having my partner walk through the door on my birthday with a cake made out of Dip n Dots. Glory!
    3. When my boss told me it would be fun to sleep with me, then put his hand on my shoulder. Creepy 60 year old man….
    4. See above.
    5. I’m playing in the pit orchestra for Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, and during last night’s run through, while they were tweaking the sound effects, they played the sound of a door closing so loudly, that it sounded like a giant passing gas. The director immediately got on the mike and said “excuse me”. The entire pit started rolling on the floor laughing. Ah, stupid fart jokes. They’ll get ya every time.
    6. Getting another year older always makes you think. Right now I’m thinking “holy shit, I need to start saving for my future instead of spending every paycheck!” Oh my god, I’m turning in to my mother.
    7. Jamaica.
    8. Communicate. It’s the most important thing in the world to me.
    9. Who does?
    10. Oh god, yes. But this is where the fear of success/failure comes in to play…
    11. That sounds lovely, thank you.

    1. mostly happy, can’t really complain. a bit unsettled, as if i’m itching for a change to come my way. somewhat distracted, but that’s par for the course, really.
    2. tuesday night, after we went to the nuggets game (free tickets, whoo!) my husband and i went to the spot where he proposed. it was snowing, and freezing cold, and magically beautiful.
    3. driving to work yesterday, on a sheet of ice with blinding snow, took twice as long as normal. i should have stayed home.
    4. i would have declared a snow day so that i could have stayed home from work.
    5. my dog, she always makes me laugh. she’s just a loon.
    6. the news bit about a woman putting her baby in a microwave made me think about the causes and events in that woman’s life that led her to such a point of desperation? lunacy? insanity? rage? incapacity? idiocy? etc… that made her think that it was an okay thing to do. and that thought made me incredibly sad.
    7. a tropical beach with crystal blue water and sparkling white sand, and the only noise would be the gentle lapping of the waves and a waiter asking me, “another drink?”
    8. relax…everything will be all right.
    9. rarely, but that includes my own understanding of myself.
    10. make an appointment for a massage and a facial.
    11. yes. and i’ll take that coffee now.

    1. Hopeful!
    2. 4:45 this morning, when my alarm went off & I realized that I had not been woken up all night, by either child! Of course, I was woken up by the cat, but that’s ok because I used the opportunity to stoke up the woodstove & keep the furnace from having to turn on. Took merely a moment.
    3. The day after my DH went into rehab for help kicking the ass of his alcoholism (that was Sunday), and I fully realized that I’m The One Parent until he returns…even separated & f*cked-up,, he has been very helpful with the kids & keeping us stocked up with firewood.
    4. I would not have bothered to shovel the drive & part of the road on Sunday, because just as I was finishing up my FIL showed up with his snowblower…D’OH! Uum, call next time & save me the trouble, OK?
    5. My 2 1/2 year old daughter. She is a riot, doing nutty things like transforming into a worm so that she can wiggle her way into her snowsuit which she lays out on the floor first. So cute to watch!
    6. Evidence that the Canadian Government hates women & wants us all to stay home, barefoot & pregnant. Just yesterday, they closed most of the Status of Women offices across Canada, because ‘they were mostly a bunch of advocacy groups.’ Well, maybe women need somebody to advocate for us, because we’re always being passed the shit end of the stick, and are too busy trying to keep above water to do any advocating for ourselves?!?
    7. Hotsprings Cove (near-ish Tofino, BC)
    8. Invite the kids over to play for a few hours, so that I can have some me-time.
    9. Yes
    10. Yes. I should be going to Al-Anon meetings. I should be eating better.
    11. No, thank you. Some nice hand lotion would be lovely, though.

  4. Laura Says:

1 - I’m feeling like I’m not getting things done that I need to before 12:30 which is my daughter’s nap time. Sigh, and here I sit, commenting on a blog!!! (but a good one)

2 - Sunday: it was the best day I’ve had in a while. Good time with family, good moods all around, and it was snowing like crazy!

3 - Feeling panicky about my job.

    4 - I don’t know if I’d change that much. They’ve been pretty good.

5 - My daugher - she’s becoming such a comic. And my husband - she must get it from him.

    6 - Trashy TV….really.

7 - In Japan, visiting old friends.

8 - Give me a full body massage, daily.

    9 - Mostly.

10 - Taking care of myself, physically. Getting a hair cut, making sure to shower and brush my teeth OFTEN, and get out shopping for some clothes that don’t have holes or pills.

11 - Um, that’s a nice offer, but I’m afraid that I don’t want any more moisture right now - the rain and snow outside is quite enough for right now. :)

  5. Ashley S Says:

Oh how you make me laugh Meg.

    1. I’m fair today, my kids are driving me mad, and the house is a pit that can’t be helped and that is enough to drive me insane. We also have no food in the house because the roads are covered in ice so hubby took the ‘good’ car.
    2. The snow.
    3. Night before last the baby decided to boycott the back of his eyelids.
    4. I would have gone to the grocery store before the storm hit, we have no food in the house, and hubby has the car.

    3. My curent state of tummy upset-ness.

    4. Actually, the office where I work has been really crazy this week. The “higher ups” have fallen behind and are grouchy and of course, all the stuff falls on me - at a time of year I am used to having some peace at last - it is a school for special needs. This requires a a shout-out to Lisa - hey there!

    5. My hubby always makes me laugh.

    6. That insane story about how the woman in Colorado was getting fined by her condo association for putting up (horror of horrors) a wreath in the shape of a peace symbol. What in the world has happened to this country and to Christmas?

    7. No question - somewhere tropical & warm - with rolling waves and warm sand.

    8. Leave me alone until winter is over. And what Lisa said about the word, “retard.”

    9. Yes, mostly. By the people who matter.

    10. Oh yeah. Exercising for sure. I am a sloth when it comes to that.

    11. Thank you, Meg - that sounds really good right about now.

And HOLY CRAP is my favorite phrase!

    8. To the moms of the world: please don’t complain about being pregnant or raising your kids in front of me or anyone else who may never get to experience that. It hurts.
    9. Mostly, yes. Today, no.
    10. I should really drink more water.
    11. Yes, please. I’m freezing in the stupid wet rain here.

Sorry. Mostly I’m a positive person but you asked on a very bad bad ugly stupid day. Thanks for that though. The asking, I mean.

    10. Stop being so hard on myself all the time and lighten up.
    11. No thanks, I’m good.

  12. Bozoette Mary Says:

  13. Stacey Says:

So sweet of you to ask, really. I’ll even answer, because I think you’ll actually read.

    1. How are you today… really? Exhausted, resigned. Oddly enough, like your first commenter, we got a new dog this week and the adjustment has been daunting to say the least.
    2. What has been the best moment of your week? Probably puppy kisses, long walks. Not the part where my eyelashes froze together because it was -28.
    3. The worst moment (that you can share, that is…)?
Going to the doctor on Wednesday and having her tell me that I definitely have polycystic ovarian syndrome for sure. I mean, I’m not having a pity party, and I know I should be glad I don’t have something worse but… I can’t pretend to be happy about having a syndrome/disease/whatever.
    4. What would you change about the previous four days, if you could change anything?
Can I choose to change my hormones? Maybe I would choose not to get a dog on a week when I’m taking hormone pills and thus cry for three days straight thinking I’ve made a horrible, horrible mistake.
    5. What has made you laugh this week?
The dog running in circles and wanting to play fetch… all the time.
    6. What has made you think this week?
Finding out that one of my best friends has been avoiding me for the past year because her husband doesn’t like mine. Huh?
    7. If you could be anywhere but where you are right now, where would you be?
Italy, sucking back a huge glass of blood orange juice and people watching, maybe throw in a piece of the awesome, dirt-cheap pizza and some gelato and it’s a little piece of heaven. Not to mention - so far from -28 degrees. Bliss.
    8. If you could tell people one thing they can do for you, what would it be?
Be honest with me. Listen when I need an ear. Tell me if you’re not happy or something isn’t right. Give more hugs.
    9. Do you feel understood?
It depends on the day. I’m not sure I really understand lately myself.
    10. Is there anything you should be doing for yourself that you’re not doing?
Probably shouldn’t have gorged on Chinese food and chocolate right after the doctor said, “If you lose a little weight it could really help with the PCOS.” What can I say, I’m a rebel at heart. But I know it’s only hurting myself.
    11. Can I get you a warm, moist towel?
That would be lovely, but it’s okay. Just asking the questions was a nice thought.

  14. meg Says:

Stacey, I feel you on the hormone thing… isn’t it a nightmare? But remember. It’s not you, it’s just the shit you have to go through to deal with the thing. Never let that crap define you.

  15. Nancy Says:

    1. How are you today… really? Lonely, fealing guilty, inadequate, depressed.
    2. What has been the best moment of your week? My Mom calling to invite me and my family over for dinner with her and my Dad. That hasn’t happened in a long time. My parents live five minutes away and I never see or hear from them unless I call them.
    3. The worst moment (that you can share, that is…)? Having to call a company I sent my resume to, to tell them I wouldn’t be able to accept their job offer at this time.
    4. What would you change about the previous four days, if you could change anything? I wouldn’t have sent my resume to that company in the first place. I’m in a mid-life crisis right now and I want to make a change and take on a more meaningful career but I was tempted by the almighty dollar and applied for a boring, mindless production job, AGAIN! The wage was incredible…the highest I would have ever gotten, but I can no longer fathom performing at one of those mind-numbing jobs involving rotating shifts. Life is too short.
    5. What has made you laugh this week? Watching ER. That Dr. Archie Morris is hysterical!
    6. What has made you think this week? Answering these questions.
    7. If you could be anywhere but where you are right now, where would you be? At my mother-in-laws winter home in Wesleco, Texas. She takes care of us and she loves to cook.
    8. If you could tell people one thing they can do for you, what would it be? Co-operate with each other and me while in my presence, under this roof.
    9. Do you feel understood? Maybe 1/1000th of the time.
    10. Is there anything you should be doing for yourself that you’re not doing? Putting my pictures, from our family vacation this past summer, in an album. Watching the family video of that holiday.
    11. Can I get you a warm, moist towel? Please! It would be so nice to have someone do a random act of kindness.

  16. huberama Says:

at least you didn’t offer us eggnog… thank you for that

  17. Ashley Says:

Diet Coke is of the devil. Bring on the coffee!
