It’s the fourth question in November…

Filed under: questions — meg @ 10:35 am

Yes, apparently we skipped the weekend, although I did ask a question at the end of the Inaugural Christmas Post.

Whee!

Here’s your question for today, or should I say, small series of questions:

  1. Give us a five song playlist for your mood today.
  2. How does music fit into your day? Do you listen at work, in your car, for your exercising, for emotional release? Is it therapeutic? Are you forced to listen to the music of others, or not to listen at all?
  3. If you could immediately absorb the talents of any musician in the world, who would you choose to… uh… absorb?
  4. What’s one CD (or mp3) you are incredibly proud to own?
  5. What’s one CD (or mp3) that embarasses you completely?
  6. Make a three song playlist for MegFowler.com…

I won’t say that it’s a playlist for me, because there’s so many more people here than just me. Although it’s my name, and not yours.

I think.

    1. I will make this playlist for the mood I WANT to have today, not the mood I actually have (ever heard “Let The Bodies Hit The Floor” by Drowning pool? Yes. Well. let me email you the lyrics sometime) So the mood I want to have: Let it Be, Paul McCartney. That is all.

    2. I enjoy music but rarely listen to it on weekdays. On my way to work it is talk radio and at home it is the same. I sometimes listen to classical during my work day but when I actually listen to it is when I drive long distances or clean.

    3. Danny Elfman, Oingo Boingo

    4. Incredibly Proud? Um, this is an odd question. I like all my music.

    5. Britney Spears, In the Zone (not mine! a roommate left it! I only liked that one song!)

    6. Break it Down Again, Tears for Fears
We Close our Eyes, Oingo Boingo
This Close to Me, The Cure
(I cheated here a little bit and just listed some of my favorites)

  2. Bozoette Mary Says:

    1. Cease and Desist, by Delbert McClinton; Love Sneaking Up on You, by Bonnie Raitt; Let’s Get It On, Marvin Gaye; The Way You Do The Things You Do, by the Temptations; and One Love Stand, by Little Feat. (It was a very nice weekend.)

    2. In the car, exercising, and writing are the top three times I listen to music.

    3. Bonnie Raitt, no question. To have her slinky, soulful voice and slide guitar talent would be … too much.

    4. I’m incredibly proud to own an autographed copy of Waiting for Columbus by Little Feat. It’s a live album, and I was at the concert where it was recorded.

    5. Um… the Cha-Cha Slide by Platinum. Kinda hard to do it in the car, you know.

    6. A three-song playlist for megfowler.com…

Okay, how about some funny ones:
    * Traditional Irish Ballad, by Denis Leary
    * No Shoes, by the Foremen
    * Who’s Next, by Tom Lehrer

May the sun shine soon in Vancouver!

  3. Rick Says:

    “I remember Clifford” (Bud Powell)
    “Pony” (Tom Waits)
“Acapulco” (Bob Dylan and The Band)
    “Dancing Queen” (Abba)
“Ooh Bop She Bam” (Dizzy Gillespie)

Most listening occurs in the car. At home, I hear others’ music. I am trying to bring others up to my own level. They rebel.

    RAVI SHANKAR

    The Incroyables at Carver Hall

    The Incroyables at Carver Hall

“Dindi” (The Antonio Carlos Jobim tune performed by Jane Monheit)
“Come Sunday” (performed by the Duke Ellington Orchestra)
“Have You Ever Seen the Rain” (Creedence Clearwater Revival)

    1. Give us a five song playlist for your mood today.

Only three came quickly into my mind, so I will go with these.
-Everyone Hurts (REM) - because I cut my thumb open last night, spent 5 hours in the ER, have 4 stitches and it freakin hurts.
-Monday, Monday (Mamas & Papas) - because it is MONDAY on top of it -enough said?
-Think of Tomorrow (Chris Isaak) - because even when things are crappy, I am an optimist at heart.

    2. How does music fit into your day? Do you listen at work, in your car, for your exercising, for emotional release? Is it therapeutic? Are you forced to listen to the music of others, or not to listen at all?

Music fits in ALL my days as a rule -unless it is inappropriate. If I am not listening to it, I hear it in my head anyways. Music at home, on the puta, at work, in the car, you-name-it. I find it extremely therapeutic for ALL purposes. Music is the universal language. I would actually be a music therapist, I think - if I knew it existed way back WHEN. Now, it would require too much school & work - and I have been trying to lighten my load, thank you very much. So I will continue to be an active listener. :)

    3. If you could immediately absorb the talents of any musician in the world, who would you choose to… uh… absorb?

Probably a killer guitar slinger like Stevie Ray Vaughn (RIP) - someone for whom music just eeks out of their very pores. Or Eve Cassidy (RIP) - who was a most incredible interpreter of songs - with a voice unmatched.

    4. What’s one CD (or mp3) you are incredibly proud to own?

It would not be a CD. (Now will my age will show?) It is an VINYL album. (Yes, I still have many vinyl albums - and a record player to listen to them!) The nearest & dearest would have to be MEET THE BEATLES - my first.

    5. What’s one CD (or mp3) that embarasses you completely?

Rod Stewart - “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy” (also vinyl)

Hmmmm………….something that would suit everyone? A tall order. How about a theme of optimism all around?

    1. Somewhere Over the Rainbow (pick your fav version - George Michael does a KILLER version!)
    2. What a Wonderful World (again, pick the version of your choice, although I would probably go with the original, Louie Armstrong)
    3. Think of Tomorrow (Chris Isaak - Baja Sessions)

  5. Rick Says:

Hey! Meet the Beetles was my first record too! If you take vinyl please change my number 4 to Meet the Beatles. But I’m sticking with my original number 5. The saxophonist was drunk.

  6. Ashley Says:

    1) Play list for Today:
    Cat Power - The Greatest
The Beta Band - Dry The Rain
Rachael Yamagata - Be Be Your Love
    Ani Difranco - Shy
    Damien Rice - Lonelily
    2) I listen to music pretty much throughout the day. It can be very therapeutic and a great help in drowning out the incessant chatter of some of my more annoying coworkers. I pretty much share the same musical tastes with my friends and family so we don’t really fight over what to listen to– which is nice.
    3) Either Emily Sailers of The Indigo Girls or Ani Difranco.
    4) Charm School by Bishop Allen
    5) Spice World by The Spice Girls
    6) Play list for MegFowler.com:
    Elvis - (Marie’s The Name)His Latest Flame
    Nanci Griffith - This Heart
Johnny Cash - A Boy Named Sue

  7. Suebob Says:

I live in a pretty music-free world. I grew up in a house without music, and I am really, really sensitive to noises and distractions. I can’t read or study with music on. I can barely cook with music on. I never buy CD’s, don’t have a stereo at home and don’t enjoy most concerts because loud music hurts me. When I am in the car I listen to talk radio in english or spanish.

It’s funny, because I really, really love to sit and listen to live music at a reasonable volume. It makes me so happy and feel so good to sit and listen to good music. It just doesn’t happen very often - usually just small orchestras or ensembles or choirs.

  8. Ashley Says:

    1. Give us a five song playlist for your mood today.
the 1st 5 songs off The Cure’s “Pornography”
    2. How does music fit into your day? Do you listen at work, in your car, for your exercising, for emotional release? Is it therapeutic? Are you forced to listen to the music of others, or not to listen at all?
Music is so integral to my being that if it is absent I feel incomplete. If I don’t have something specific on I have KEXP (Seattle) on, possibly the ONLY radio station worth mentioning EVER (www.kexp.org)
    3. If you could immediately absorb the talents of any musician in the world, who would you choose to… uh… absorb?
I am not a huge Rush fan, but I would have to say Neil Pert…could you imagine drumming like that?
    4. What’s one CD (or mp3) you are incredibly proud to own? This is sort of weird question for me, are you asking what CD makes me feel cool? Um I guess it would be Iggt and the Stooges “raw power”
    5. What’s one CD (or mp3) that embarasses you completely? I honestly am not embarrassed by anything I own, but I have friends that think I should be embarrased that I own every Hall & Oates album made.
    6. Make a three song playlist for MegFowler.com…
