Linkliciousness: Design.

Filed under: stuff — meg @ 12:18 pm

Because who can get enough good places to go on the Internet? Not me. My linkliciousness theme today is Design. Because deep inside the Meg, there is a fervent design spaz. I love pretty things that work beautifully. And beautiful things that work prettily. And I don’t just mean my roommate.

I’m in a bit of a modern phase right now, which might have something to do with rampant OCD, or some psychological sloughing process I’m undergoing, or perhaps my theory on how modern design (rather than being just sterile or severe) actually allows light, shadow and other natural elements to do their thing in our environments without distraction. And I am so easily distracted. By stuff. And things.

(Also, I love much, much more than just modern design. Although I cannot profess to love calico or super-antique-infested homes or florid detailing or crafty crap or reproductions or regency or medieval or Rococo or baroque designs, although I used to like some of it. Asian antiques are the old stuff I like. But I digress… )

  • Inhabitat: Sustainable design and green stuff. Makes me think of my friend Aaron (currently in an enviromental design program because he’s brilliant and OH YEAH, WHO WRITES THE BEST REFERENCE LETTERS) and my former roomie Kerry. I think Kerry would recycle me if she could. To make clothing she would wear fondly, and think of me.
  • Simple Human: The pod brewer? Chic, chic, CHIC. I’m a dork for typing it once, let alone three times, but honestly? Do you have a better word? Maybe “small.”
  • Design*Sponge: Oooh, a blog of goodness. The stationary posts alone!
  • Hive: The wall and ceiling lamps ALONE are gorgeousness. Check out George Nelson et al.
  • Transparent House: Check out the industrial design page. I know they’re just animating and presenting this stuff, but the stuff they’re doing? Awesome.
  • Moda Ceramics: I have a weird obsession with tiling. Tiny tiles in water-colours and celadon and white. A good shower or tub or backsplash or swimming pool sets me all a-twitter.

Mmmm!

Ohhh, I love design sites and these are new to me! We have no more room in our apartment for anything else, but I am eying the top of my desk, thinking, “hmm, maybe some fun office thingies?”

This is another one I like: http://www.designpublic.com/

Thanks for the links, I will check them out. I’m totally into design and decorating, too. Here’s a fun post from one of my latest favorites, Decor8.

Oh, and I’ve just discovered Domino magazine, which is really great. Martha’s new Blueprint is good, too.

This T-shirt is beautifully designed. And I think you should buy it. ‘Cause it’s so YOU.
(or it could be that I’m just a huge webnerd and saw a shirt, and immediately thought of my favourite blogger. Blogher. Whatever.)

[…] A wee while back, I shared a few of my favourite design sites. I can’t get enough of gorgeous, touchable functionality (and not just in the opposite sex, mind you!) so I felt compelled to share my finds. […]
